Smooth Surface
Chromium Carbide
Overlay Plate
Manufactured with submerged arc welding advanced fusion technology -- a smoother wear surface combined with high-chromium carbide overlay, uniform microstructure, and superior workability. Engineered for bulk-handling systems where rough overlay plates cause material hang-up, friction, and flow disruption.
Smoother Flow.
Same Carbide Hardness.
Standard CCO plates have visible weld beads and rough surfaces -- which trap fines, increase friction, and disrupt material flow in chutes, hoppers, and feeders. HALDEN Smooth Surface CCO eliminates that profile while preserving the chromium carbide microstructure responsible for abrasion resistance.
The result: a wear plate with low-friction surface behavior suited to bulk material handling, while delivering 3-5× the service life of Hardox 500 in laboratory and field testing.
For bulk flow areas where rough overlays cause friction, build-up, or material hang-up.
- Low-friction surface
- Smooth material movement
- No visible weld beads
Manufactured to sketch, drawing, dimensions, material spec, and machining program.
- Custom plate sizes
- Custom overlay patterns
- Min bend radius: 20× thickness
Submerged arc welding with shot-blasted post-treatment for consistent surface and microstructure.
- SAW process
- Advanced fusion technology
- Uniform structure & chemistry
Engineered for Flow.
Built to Outlast.
Lab and field data show 3-5× the service life of Hardox 500 plate.
Smooth surface design eliminates the rough bead profile of standard CCO.
Surface smoothness lowers friction and heat during material handling.
Material moves freely and consistently across the plate face.
Better formability and ductility versus comparable wear plates.
Elevated chromium content boosts wear and corrosion resistance.

Process Notes for
Engineers & Fabricators.
Plates manufactured via submerged arc welding (SAW). Min bend radius for custom plates: 20× total thickness.
Plasma cutting for shaping. Square or countersunk holes via waterjet or plasma cutting only.
The hardfacing overlay cannot be drilled or machined by conventional methods. Pre-plan all hole and cut features.
Install with weld beads perpendicular to material flow for maximum service life. Wave or straight weld patterns available.
Tested.
Verified.
Documented.
Every batch is verified for hardness consistency, alloy chemistry, overlay thickness, and microstructure -- supported by ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified systems.
Rockwell hardness gauges and portable testers verify overlay hardness across the plate.
Portable spectrograph confirms alloy chemistry and material consistency batch-to-batch.
Portable ultrasonic thickness gauge verifies overlay layer thickness and uniformity.
Abrasion tester and metallurgical microscope verify wear performance and microstructure.

Common Questions.
What is a Smooth Surface Premium CCO Plate?
A chromium carbide overlay plate manufactured with a smoother wear surface that reduces friction and improves material flow, while maintaining full carbide-level abrasion resistance.
How is HALDEN Smooth CCO Plate manufactured?
Submerged arc welding (SAW) advanced fusion technology, followed by shot-blasting post-treatment to deliver a smooth, uniform overlay surface.
What hardness can the plate reach?
HRC 58-64, verified by Rockwell hardness testing on every batch.
Can Smooth Surface CCO be drilled or machined?
No. The hardfacing overlay cannot be drilled or machined by conventional methods. Square holes and countersunk holes must be produced by waterjet or plasma cutting.
